Dear Notebook,

Sorry about the drops of water. Bells, Shira, and I ran straight from the lake to lunch so my hair is still a little wet. Hopefully it will dry during rest hour.

Free swim was the best! I’d been dreading it since yesterday, when I didn’t pass the swim test to use the slide. But Bells stayed back with me and Shira, and we had so much fun. Joe replaced the dead blow-up swans with unicorns. I named my unicorn Majestica, Shira named her unicorn Quantifica, and Bells named hers Bob.

Bells is funny like that. At least, I think she was trying to be funny. But after what happened this morning with the cabin plaque, it also felt sad. Bells has trouble in school, and her parents hire a ton of tutors so that no one finds out. Maybe she chose the name Bob because she was protesting complicated words?

When Bells and I got back from the woods, everyone was waiting for us. They’d tried to wipe off the messed-up word with a paper towel but it was still too wet to paint over. Then Bells remembered that she had a hair dryer in the bottom of one of her trunks. We used it to dry the paint and start from scratch.

The plaque was saved, but when I went back into the cabin to put on my bathing suit, I noticed the picture of Bells’s family was gone. I don’t know where Bells put it. I think she didn’t want her family looking at her anymore.

Sorry! Bells threw a sock at my head, and I had to throw one back. Do you think Bells knows I was writing about her? There’s no way, right? But that’s why I still keep you under my bed. People come in and out of our cabin all day long. I don’t want to worry about someone looking inside.

I almost forgot to tell you about Shira! I think she’s some sort of science genius. She’s famous for inventing slime. Her next invention is slime that can burp when it moves. It’s top secret right now but maybe she’ll send me some when it comes out.

Ah! More sock attacks! Gotta go!
